After spending the majority of 2025 being unable to put pencil to paper, I had the chance to join a group of sketchers at The Estuary in Old Saybrook for a class called “The Joy of Sketching”. I saw it as a way to reestablish a drawing habit I had lost along the way. Since I always endeavor to improve my skills, it seemed like a good way to feel responsible for coming up with sketches each week.
The class was structured so that each week we were to do five sketches of the same subject. Each day deciding what was interesting about it and honing in on that, spending 30-60 minutes, and trying to remain loose. I found this way of working really helpful and have continued with it after the class ended.
