The Evolution of an Artist

Old Saybrook in Charcoal

Influenced by a recent class on gesture drawing I decided to create a new series of drawings that focus on my adopted hometown of Old Saybrook, CT, using subjects that capture the energy and movement of the place.

I enjoy the freedom and energy of gesture drawing especially after the last series, which was small and somewhat precise. It’s freeing to work large, fast and well… free. Here is what I have so far.

More to come on this project. As I write this ten months later, I realize that my motivation for completing this project has waned because charcoal is not the right medium for it. Old Saybrook, CT is quite blue and green.
